The Sustainability Secretariat of the Autonomous University of Nuevo León (UANL), through the Directorate of Project Development (DDP), held the first ordinary online meeting of 2021 of the University Academy for Sustainable Development (AUDS) last Wednesday June 30 of this year through the Microsoft Teams digital platform, with the aim of publicizing the activities carried out by the DDP during the first semester of this year in which members of the AUDS participated, in addition to presenting the proposal of work of the DDP that will be carried out during the second semester of the year, in order to encourage the participation of the academy in said activities, as well as listen to the proposals of the participants on the activities and projects that could be carried out with the members of the AUDS to promote sustainability in university environments.
The meeting was attended by Dr. Sergio S. Fernández Delgadillo, Secretary of Sustainability; Dr. Carlos Ramírez Martínez, Director of Project Development; Dr. Evangelina Ramírez Lara, Director of Environmental Management and Operational Safety; the M.C. Félix González Estrada, Director of Infrastructure for Sustainability; Dr. Algelia Vargas Moreno, Director of the Faculty of Chemical Sciences, and more than 60 members of the AUDS, assigned to various agencies such as: High Schools 1, 2, 4, 7, 8, the Faculties of Agronomy, Architecture, Visual Arts , Biological Sciences, Communication Sciences, Physical Mathematical Sciences, Political Sciences and International Relations, Chemical Sciences, Public Accounting and Administration, Law and Criminology, Philosophy and Letters, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, Medicine, Veterinary Medicine and Zootechnics, Dentistry, Health Public and Nutrition, Social Work and Human Development and Institute of Social Research.
To start the meeting, Dr. Ramírez Martínez offered a brief welcome message and later, Dr. Sergio Fernández Delgadillo, gave a message in which he highlighted the important role that AUDS members play in generating proposals for action that allows to continue with the process of building a sustainable society and immediately afterwards carried out the inaugural declaration of the event.
Next, a summary of the activities that the DDP carried out to promote sustainability in university environments was presented, which had the participation of AUDS members, among which the following were mentioned: international online course ” Training of leaders promoting sustainability ”, Environment week at UANL, held from May 31 to June 6 of this year, 1st. Meeting of Student Associations Linked to Sustainability, as well as in the permanent seminar of the University Academy for Sustainable Development and the recording of the 10th. Season of the television program Mundo Sustentable.
One of the relevant topics addressed during the meeting was the presentation of the promotional poster and the proposed program for the 1st. International Forum on Education for Sustainability, in order to know the opinion of the members of the AUDS on the relevance of both documents, resulting in an acceptance of the proposals presented by most of the attendees, so from From the first week of July of this year, the promotional of the Forum will be published and then its program.
Then, the certificates were delivered to the new members of the AUDS: nine academics with extensive experience and knowledge in different subjects who are assigned to different academic units of the UANL, taking advantage of the space to congratulate Dr. Pedro César Cantú Martínez, research professor at the Faculty of Biological Sciences of the UANL, for having obtained the Award for Educational Excellence granted by the International Organization for Inclusion and Educational Quality (OIICE).
During the final part of the meeting, Dr. Carlos Ramírez called on the members of the AUDS to continue participating in the academic and dissemination events promoted by the Secretariat of Sustainability, especially in the next edition of the international online course of ” Training of leaders promoting sustainability ”, the monthly sessions of the permanent seminar of the AUDS, the recording of the 11th. Season of the TV program “Mundo Sustentable”, as well as requesting their support to promote the participation of the student community in the 7th photography contest “In the sights of sustainability”, which in this edition has as its theme “actions for sustainability in pandemic time ”.
To conclude, the participants were urged to follow and interact with the website and social networks (Facebook, Instagram and the YouTube channel of UANL Sustentable) that are administered by the Secretariat of Sustainability.
