Ministry of Sustainability
The creation of the Secretariat of Sustainability (SS) of the Autonomous University of Nuevo León, generated an instance of institutional, state and national reference in the issue of sustainable development, in order to promote environmental care, social commitment and democratic life among the members of the university community and its social environment.
The Sustainable UANL project is developed with a holistic perspective, perceiving the campus as a learning laboratory, with a model of sustainable community in a world of sustainable life and is based on several points, all of them of great relevance: the academy, research, administration and community service through the transfer of knowledge.
Although the construction of a sustainable future is the obligatory task of each and every human being that inhabits the world; Education institutions have a crucial role, due to the responsibility that society has given them to train citizens with a human, equitable and sustainable vision of development. In such a way that capturing the attention of the university community and its social environment, to keep it informed and sensitize it about the initiatives and actions that the Institution carries out to hasten its transit towards sustainability, in order to achieve its involvement and collaboration, it is presented as a task of strategic importance.
Scientific dissemination allows access to knowledge as a public good and aims to publicize new information that contributes to decision-making and people’s actions. The dissemination is done by various means: courses, workshops, conferences, publications, websites, social networks, television programs, email, among others. The network has become the main means of communication allowing information to reach more people and various geographic locations. Institutional websites have generated designs that allow accessibility and usability of information in orderly and attractive formats for the entire public.
In this context, currently, the Secretariat of Sustainability of the UANL, through the Project Development Department, coordinates communication and dissemination programs on issues related to sustainability, aimed at members of the university community and the different sectors of society linked to university work, through electronic media, such as social networks and Web page, the design and dissemination of printed materials, audiovisual productions and the realization of forums, competitions, seminars and conferences.
The communication strategy designed by the SS to promote the principles, values, tasks of sustainability, within and outside the university environment, considers the following activities:
- The design and assembly of a web page and the Facebook wall in order to facilitate communication between the different members of the university community, with the purpose of establishing an even closer relationship between them, focusing their attention on chores and actions in favor of sustainability.
At present, there is no means of communication that due to its dynamism and immeasurable growth can be equated with the Internet. Unlike other traditional means of information, a website and social networks allow for two-way communication and can replace and make more efficient some current information channels. So that this instrument of digital communication can quickly become the main meeting place for social actors linked to sustainability.
The design and operation of the website and social networks was in charge of specialists in the administration of digital communication systems and sustainable development, which has allowed good design and accessibility, as well as fast, friendly and safe navigation to facilitate your query by target users.
Currently, the Facebook wall: Sustainable UANL, which has 11,134 followers from more than 63 countries and generates more than 1,275,566 annual reach.
