On Friday, August 11, 2017, the Secretary of Sustainability of the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León (UANL), through the Project Development Department, together with the Faculty of Communication Sciences and the Monterrey municipality, carried out successfully the day of recovery of natural environments in urban areas in the forest reserve area of Campus Mederos, UANL.
The objective of the day was to carry out actions to recover public spaces of ecological importance to improve the environmental quality of the Metropolitan Area of Monterrey, with the enthusiastic participation of members of the university community, public institutions and civil associations.
At 9:30 hours the inaugural ceremony was held with the participation of Dr. Francisco G. Valdez Rincón, Coordinator of the Faculty of Communication Sciences; Mr. Victor Jaime Cabrera Medrano, Delegate of the Federal Attorney for Environmental Protection in the state of Nuevo León, Mr. Juan Carlos Holguín Aguirre, Director of Ecology of the municipality of Monterrey and Dr. Sergio Fernández Delgadillo, Secretary of Sustainability of the UANL; Who welcomed the implementation of these activities and reiterated their commitment to continue to support them.
The activities carried out during the day were the collection of solid urban waste in the surroundings of the Faculty of Communication Sciences of UANL, the recording of a TV program of the Sustainable World series, the exhibition of two conferences: First with the title “Care of the American Black Bear” given by Ing. Miguel Garza Martínez, subdelegate of Natural Resources of PROFEPA and the second “Invasive Exotic Species in the National Park Cumbres de Monterrey” by Ing. Aldo Alemán García of the National Commission of Protected Natural Areas. In addition, an environmental fair was held by the International Social Program “Hijos de la Madre Tierra” and the exhibition of the campaign to conserve the black bear “RESPE.TU.OSO” by the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Science, UANL.
The activities carried out during the day were attended by more than 100 young volunteers members of different UANL student groups, among them “Arsafe” of the Faculty of Economy, “Mediverde” of the Faculty of Medicine, Volunteers from the Faculty of Communication Sciences, “Potros al Verde”, and volunteers and staff of the Directorate of Social Service and Professional Practices of UANL.
We thank all the participants for their support in carrying out this important day, which shows the commitment of members of the university community, as well as public institutions and civil society organizations to maintain the natural environments that are part Of the Metropolitan Area of Monterrey, for the benefit of all.
