The Ministry of Sustainability of the Autonomous University of Nuevo León (UANL) through the Project Development Department, carried out the 1st. Ordinary Meeting of 2018 of the University Academy for Sustainable Development on March 16 of this year from 9:30 am in the auditorium of the Center for the Education of Oral Litigation (CEPLO) of the Faculty of Law and Criminology, of the UANL, with the objective of continuing with the process of integration and development of the AUDS, as well as defining the actions to promote sustainability in the university curriculum.
The event was inaugurated by Dr. Javier Sepúlveda Ponce, Deputy Administrative Director of the Faculty representing the L.L.M. Oscar Lugo Serrato, Director of the Faculty of Law and Criminology of the UANL; Dr. Carlos Ramírez Martínez, Director of Project Development, of the Secretariat of Sustainability of the UANL and Dr. Sergio S. Fernández Delgadillo, Secretary of Sustainability of the UANL, who at the end of their interventions, delivered proof of accreditation to the fifteen new members of the University Academy for Sustainable Development (AUDS).
Once the inauguration ceremony was completed, the master lecture entitled “Climate change: effects and solutions”, given by Dr. Javier Jiménez Pérez, Professor-Researcher of the Faculty of Forest Sciences of the Autonomous University of New Lion.
In the framework of the meeting the M.C.E. Félix González Estrada, director of Infrastructure for Sustainability of the Ministry of Sustainability presented the “Carbon Footprint” questionnaire; which aims to measure the amount of kilograms of CO2 emitted by members of the university community derived from the activities they perform daily.
Subsequently, Ms. Myriam Viviana Quistiano Valdez, program coordinator for sustainability of the Project Development Department; He presented the process of incorporating new members and made the proposed activities of the AUDS for this year; Meanwhile, Eng. Gloria Nelly Salas Celestino, information and statistics coordinator of the Project Development Department, explained the access to the Share Point virtual platform, its advantages and applications to the members of the AUDS.
Finally, Dr. Carlos Ramírez Martínez, Director of Project Development, coordinated a “brainstorming” dynamic where attendees commented on proposals for the realization of the events of the AUDS among which are the course of competitions for sustainability and the environmental sustainability of development course, as well as the theme to be addressed at the next International Seminar on Sustainability, held each year by the Ministry of Sustainability.
The annual meeting of the AUDS was attended by more than 65 teachers from the Autonomous University of Nuevo León, assigned to various units such as: the Directorate of the System of Studies of Bachelor, Industrial School and Technical High School “Álvaro Obregón”, Preparatory 1 , 2, 3, 7, 8, 9 and 18 of the Faculties of Agronomy, Architecture, Visual Arts, Biological Sciences, Communication Sciences, Earth Sciences, Political Science and International Relations, Chemical Sciences, Public Accounting and Administration, Law and Criminology, Civil Engineering, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, Public Health and Nutrition, and Veterinary Medicine and Zootechnics.
The attendees showed a great interest in continuing to incorporate sustainability into the actions and tasks that they perform daily within the university environment, in addition to continuing to join the initiatives proposed by the AUDS.
