As part of the celebration of its 91st anniversary,, the Autonomous University of Nuevo León (UANL) presents to the university community and society its Annual
Sustainability Report 2023,a document that reflects not only the achievements of
the last year, but also the institutional vision and responsibility for the future, within
the framework of the UANL Institutional Development Program 2024-2040.
The report contains a description of the initiatives and achievements achieved by
the UANL in 2023 in terms of sustainability. Among the most relevant actions are
the following: a) the containment of the growth of the carbon footprint by
implementing good practices in energy consumption, as well as promoting the use
of renewable energy; b) carrying out efficient water management, reducing its
consumption through good management practices and adequate control of leaks;
c) the proper management and disposal of waste, through awareness campaigns
on the responsible use of resources and recycling days; d) the incorporation of
topics related to environmental care and sustainable development in the academic
curriculum, in addition to promoting the participation of students and teachers in
research projects focused on providing sustainable solutions; e) the operation of
natural resource monitoring and conservation programs and f) the institutional
program on sustainable mobility CONECTA UANL, among other actions described
in the report.
The report is a testimony to the hard and great work carried out throughout the
year by students, teachers and administrative staff who are committed to
promoting sustainable development in university environments and promoting a
culture of sustainability among the population of Nuevo León and the northeastern
region of Mexico.
Throughout the report, one can observe the results of the process of alignment that
the UANL has been carrying out of its policies and strategies with the Sustainable
Development Goals (SDG) promoted by the United Nations (UN), which implies a
long-term commitment to mitigating climate change, promoting affordable and non-
polluting energy, and the sustainable management of natural resources.
Despite the progress made, the Annual
Sustainability Report 2023, also points
out that UANL faces significant challenges in the short, medium and long term.
These include continuing to improve energy efficiency and waste management, as
well as strengthening the culture of sustainability among members of the university
community. However, in line with the UANL Vision 2040, we look to the future with
a comprehensive vision, aimed at generating solutions that address the challenges
facing contemporary society, which positions us not only as the Most Sustainable
University in Mexico, but also as a benchmark in sustainability at an international
level.
