The Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León (UANL) promotes various initiatives aimed at advancing sustainability through art and cultural expressions, integrating two deeply rooted elements within the university community: culture and environmental responsibility. Through this strategy, the UANL seeks to raise awareness among students, faculty, and society at large about the importance of environmental conservation and the responsible use of natural resources, using art as a means of reflection, communication, and social transformation.

Through its high schools, schools, and cultural spaces, the UANL organizes activities that combine artistic creativity with environmental education, encouraging the creation of works and projects with a sustainable focus. Among these initiatives, the creation of visual, sculptural, and audiovisual artworks made from recycled or reused materials stands out, promoting the responsible use of resources and the reduction of waste. These artistic expressions convey messages related to biodiversity protection, comprehensive waste management, climate change, and ecosystem conservation.

Likewise, the UANL organizes workshops, exhibitions, contests, and cultural activities that strengthen student participation and environmental awareness, creating spaces for dialogue and learning where artistic talent, innovation, and social commitment converge. These initiatives allow students to develop new forms of creative expression while reflecting on current environmental challenges and their role in building a more sustainable society.

Among the most representative initiatives is the “En la Mira de la Sustentabilidad” photography contest, promoted by the Sustainability Department through the Project Development Office. This contest has established itself as a space for participation and environmental awareness that encourages the university community to document issues and actions related to sustainability. In 2025, the tenth edition of the contest was held under the theme “Wildlife on University Campuses,” while the photography exhibition featuring the winning works was displayed at seven university venues, reaching an audience of more than 4,000 people.

The impact of these initiatives is reflected in the university community’s growing interest in incorporating sustainability into cultural and creative processes, thereby strengthening a holistic vision in which art serves as a tool for education and social awareness.
