Communication and Diffusion Program
Communication and Outreach Program for Sustainability
The communication and outreach program for sustainability (Sustentable UANL), promoted by the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León (UANL) through the Project Development Office of the Sustainability Department, has become an important tool for promoting a culture of sustainability.
Its goal is not only to inform but, above all, to raise awareness among students and academic and administrative staff so that they assume their rightful role as promoters of the transition toward sustainability.
Through campaigns, digital content, and informational activities, the program seeks to connect sustainability issues with the daily activities carried out by members of the university community, with the aim of integrating this concept as part of the UANL’s institutional identity.
The program has a system for measuring the impact of the communication initiatives implemented. Thus, every message disseminated and every activity carried out is evaluated in terms of its reach and impact on the awareness and habits of the university community and the society with which it interacts. This strengthens confidence both within and outside the UANL regarding the program’s relevance and prevents sustainability from being perceived solely as a rhetorical concept lacking transformative power.
In 2025, nearly 3,000 posts were published to promote sustainability, reaching 1.19 million people on social media and the website
To this date, significant progress has been made in integrating sustainability into the organizational culture through the implementation of a strategy aimed at generating, in the first stage, awareness; subsequently, knowledge; then, ownership; and finally, action. This fulfills the objective of ensuring that students, faculty, and staff not only understand issues related to sustainability but also adopt them and reflect them in their daily decisions and behaviors.
The operation of the UANL’s Communication and Outreach Program for Sustainability has strengthened the UANL’s institutional positioning through the digital strategy known as UANLSustentable, which comprises the official sustainability website (sds.uanl.mx), social media (Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube), and various multimedia platforms.
During the year, more than 2,859 posts were published, reaching over 1.19 million people. Additionally, 188 audiovisual materials were produced, and 81 academic and scientific events were livestreamed, collectively attracting more than 514,300 viewers interested in topics such as the circular economy, climate change, the water crisis, air quality, responsible consumption, and inclusion.

The program’s digital presence helped strengthen ties not only with the university community but also with a wide range of audiences in the state of Nuevo León, throughout Mexico, and in more than 100 countries, including China, Russia, the United States, Singapore, Argentina, Colombia, New Zealand, India, Saudi Arabia, Australia, Algeria, and Nigeria, among others. This international reach expanded the UANL’s institutional scope and established the University as a leader in promoting sustainability at the national and international levels.
Complementarily, part of the content generated was aimed at encouraging student participation through spaces for reflection and proposal, where students identified issues in their environment and proposed solutions with a sustainable focus. This promoted their transition from a passive audience to active agents of change in favor of sustainability.
