Annual meeting of the University Academy for Sustainable Development 2023
The Sustainability Secretariat of the Autonomous University of Nuevo León, through the Project Development Directorate, held the Annual Meeting of the University Academy for Sustainable Development (AUDS) on November 24, 2023 starting at 11 :00 hours in the multipurpose room of the Research Center for Sustainable Development, with the objective of promoting interdisciplinary collaboration, sharing advances in research and practical experiences on sustainability issues, among members of the AUDS, as well as promoting search for innovative solutions to face the global challenges posed by the transition towards Sustainable Development.
On this occasion, there was special participation from Dr. Sergio Fernández Delgadillo, Secretary of Sustainability (SS) of the UANL; Dr. Carlos Ramírez Martínez, Director of Project Development of the SS of the UANL; Dr. Evangelina Ramírez Lara, Director of Environmental Management and Operational Safety; the M.C. Félix González Estrada, Director of Infrastructure for Sustainability; as well as Eng. Benito Pérez and Mtro. Carlos Álvarez from the Autonomous University of Ciudad Juárez.
In addition, more than 60 teachers from the Autonomous University of Nuevo León participated, assigned to various departments such as: High Schools 1, 7, 16, Industrial School and Technical High School “Pablo Livas”, Faculties of Agronomy, Architecture, Visual Arts, Biological Sciences, Sciences of Communication, Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Forestry Sciences, Political Sciences and International Relations, Chemical Sciences, Public Accounting and Administration, Law and Criminology, Nursing, Civil Engineering, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, Medicine, Veterinary Medicine and Zootechnics, Psychology, Public Health and Nutrition and Social Work and Human Development.
The welcome message was given by Dr. Ramírez Martínez, head of the DDP, who asked Dr. Fernández Delgadillo, Secretary of Sustainability of the UANL, to give a message and carry out the opening declaration of the meeting, where he mentioned the importance of these spaces as an opportunity to analyze the challenges related to sustainability to carry out proposals for solutions in the social and university context.
Once the opening ceremony was over, the online keynote lecture titled “Competences in Education for Sustainable Development” was given by Dr. Gisela Cebrián Bernat, Professor Serra Húnter of the Department of Pedagogy at the Rovira i Virgili University. , who provided recommendations to integrate education for sustainability in a holistic and transversal way in educational institutions in order for the student to acquire theoretical and practical knowledge necessary to promote Sustainable Development, this through competencies for sustainability, as well as such as the competencies in education for sustainability that will allow the teacher to be part of this transformation.
At the end of the conference, the members of the AUDS interacted with the guest where they addressed the challenges and opportunities for the integration of sustainability in the university curriculum, shared experiences from their teaching practice; as well as the actions they will take to continue this educational work.
Subsequently, Dr. Carlos Ramírez Martínez presented the annual summary of activities to promote Sustainability in University Environments carried out during 2023 that included the participation of members of the AUDS, among which are: environment week in the UANL, the international training course for promoter leaders for sustainability, the AUDS Permanent Seminar, days for the recovery of natural environments, and the photographic exhibition “In the sights of sustainability.
Presented the 2024 activity plan to promote sustainability in order for AUDS members to participate and be part of the transformation towards a sustainable university, among which stand out: environment week at UANL 2024, two international courses “Training of leaders who promote sustainability”, permanent AUDS seminar, forest inventory in university facilities, exhibition of the photographic exhibition “In the sights of sustainability”, 10th photography contest “In the sights of sustainability”, among others.
During the August-December 2023 semester, an invitation campaign was carried out for professors and specialists interested in being part of this team of academics, so seventeen new members were welcomed to the AUDS assigned to various schools and faculties of the UANL.
Those attending the plenary showed great interest in continuing to incorporate sustainability in the actions and tasks that they carry out daily within the university environment, in addition to continuing to be part of the initiatives proposed by the AUDS such as holding meetings where they take place. to learn about educational experiences, as well as formal and non-formal education activities.
At the closing ceremony of the event, Dr. Sergio Fernández Delgadillo, Secretary of Sustainability of the UANL, invited the members of the AUDS to continue participating in projects and initiatives to promote sustainability in university environments and their social environment.
