Diagnosis on the incorporation of sustainability in the university curriculum of the UANL

The purpose of the curriculum assessment is to identify and analyze the incorporation of sustainability-related content within the undergraduate and graduate educational offerings of the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León (UANL). This exercise provides insight into the degree to which environmental, social, economic, and institutional responsibility topics are integrated into the learning units that make up the various educational programs offered by the UANL.

This assessment addresses the need to strengthen the integration of sustainability across academic programs, recognizing the strategic role that higher education institutions play in preparing professionals capable of addressing global challenges related to climate change, natural resource management, the energy transition, biodiversity conservation, and the building of more just and resilient societies.

This analysis aims to determine the number of learning units related to sustainability issues relative to the total number of courses offered in undergraduate and graduate programs, while also identifying the main thematic areas addressed, the levels of curricular integration, and opportunities for academic strengthening in this area.

This assessment serves as a strategic tool for institutional decision-making aimed at consolidating sustainability as a cross-cutting theme in university education, in accordance with the objectives established in the Institutional Development Plan and with national and international commitments regarding sustainable development.

In 2025, the 26 schools that make up the UANL offered an educational program consisting of 99 bachelor’s degree programs, in which they taught 8,680 Learning Units (LU), 6,417 of which are related to sustainability.
